Ender’s Game boycott ensues over Orson Scott Card’s anti-gay remarks

It’s not exactly news that Orson Scott Card doesn’t like gay people.  The prolific author’s homophobic views have been controversial for decades.  Card is not only on the board of directors for the National Organization for Marriage, but he has had his views published in the Mormon Times.  In this particular article sample Card wrote for the Mormon Times he confronts the controversy over his views:
“I suppose I can take some comfort from the fact that over the years I have been savaged both for showing too much sympathy for the "abomination" of homosexuality and for showing too much "homophobic" opposition to the political agenda of the radical homosexual community. If either group of intolerant extremists felt comfortable with my works and my words, I would have reason to reexamine my position. As things stand right now, however, I think I am annoying exactly the right people on both sides, and so will continue as I have in the past, to attempt to discover the truth of every aspect of human life and then to tell what truth I believe I have found, as best I can, in both my fiction and my nonfiction.” –Orson Scott Card, Mormon Times

Although Card has been expressing his negative views towards homosexuality for decades, the times have obviously changed.  Many of us today have gay friends, neighbors, family members and live in a more tolerant society.  As a result, in retaliation to Card's comments Geeks Out has organized a boycott against Ender's Game.

Personally I feel that Orscon Scott Card has a right to express his personal views, however, he should be resigned to suffer the consequences of his public opinions.  Whether or not you choose to join the movement to boycott Ender's Game is your choice.

Even though it pains me greatly in every fiber of my nerd being, I for one cannot in good conscience see Ender's Game.  What are your thoughts? Opinions?  Let me know in the comments section below.
