Review of Doctor Who: The Bells of Saint John S7Ep7

The new episodes of Doctor Who have finally arrived, bringing with them the official introduction of the new companion (The Impossible Girl) and the return of a familiar foe. This Version of Clara Oswin Oswald has returned and not only is she a nanny like in The Snowman episode, but she also is (becomes) super tech savvy like she was in The Asylum of The Daleks.  "Run you clever boy and remember".

This time the villain seems to be using wi-fi to download people's mind and feed on them. Some people's brains are hacked and they can be controlled using a tablet. Now of course this unknown entity needs to feed on free-range brains and it's ability to control minds seems terribly familiar. The humanoid "spoon heads" and the disembodied power should have been the final clue that our old friend from The Great Intelligence from The Snowmen episode is back. I'm damn glad to see him (it?) back in good cold & calculating form. Well you didn't expect him to just disappear now, did you?

Episode overall:
Ok, this episode seemed a little lackluster to me. It just didn't have that hard hit that I've come to expect from an episode that really introduces a new companion. Honestly the other episodes with the other Clara's were much better, they just had more weight and depth to them. I suppose that the reason this latest episode fizzled a bit (just my opinion) is because there will be so much tension building up before the inevitable showdown with The Great Intelligence. How is it that the super smart entity doesn't really seem to register Clara's possible existence? And why does the Doctor leave Clara alone with a computer that he knows can potentially kill/download her? Anybody else notice how the Doctor didn't seem all too bothered by the fact that when the cloud was downloaded that most of those people would die? I thought that he would at least try to figure out a way for them to survive a little; maybe reprogram the spoon heads or something and upload the remaining people to them.  Something like that. I know they are being "released from a living hell" but I just sort of thought that the doctor would at least give saving them too a shot instead of nonchalantly writing them off.

What I loved:
-The slight implication that women are more frightening than demons.
-The Doctor saying "Monks are not cool."
-Clara shamelessly flirting with the Doctor.
-Clara calling the TARDIS  a "snogging booth."
-Kids being creepy mind controlled robot kids.
-The line "nobody loves cattle more than Burger King."
-That The Shard's undoing is Facebook.
-Riding motorcycle up a building.
-The return of The Great Intelligence.
-Clara playing hard to get.

  1. Did anyone find it odd, that people could see the Tardis?

  2. Yes! That was a bit odd. Also I laughed when he gave his little speech about leaving it behind because it was too powerful to fall into the wrong hands. The TARDIS is constantly being flown into danger and has been captured a couple of times. I'm also interested in hearing theories on Clara , and her "impossible" existence.
