As a wise man once said, there is no accounting for taste. Every geek has their guilty pleasure
movies. They are terrible, they are tacky, and yet we love them. Of course we hate to go against Dork
Doctrine and admit we actually like these movies (because that would be
blasphemous). Despite this fact,
fruit is always juicier when it is forbidden. So here are Geek Magnet's top 5 Geeky Guilty Pleasure movies.
#5. Hackers
For one brief shining moment when I was a kid I entertained the idea of becoming a Hacker , despite the fact that I have always been a bit technologically challenged, and this movie was the reason why. Who didn't want to be the ultra cool Acid Burn and Crash Override? Now those clothes seem wacky, the Technology is hilariously outdated, and that skateboarding villain just seems ridiculous. I am also pretty sure a lot of it is total BS. But the movie accomplished making Nerdome cool and that makes it a guilty pleasure favorite.
#4. The Faculty
This movie is filthy with actors who were headed towards bigger and better things. It takes the Teen horror flick clichés and adds a bit of the invasion of the body snatchers to make this really fun film. Starring Usher, Elijah Wood, Katie Holmes, Josh Hartnett, Selma Hayek, and Jon Stewart this film is absolutely irresistible in all its awesome cheesiness. In fact extra cheesy goodness is added to the film due to the heroes being a drug dealer and nerd team combo.

#3. Battlefield Earth
Whether I’m watching Battlefield Earth or Hairspray, I just can't resist watching John Travolta looking and acting over the top. Battlefield Earth has petty and shallow Aliens ruling over a rather primitive band of humans. This movie looks and feels like Planet of The Apes and Independence Day had a tacky love child. Of course I love it!
#2. Star Wars Episode I-III
I know I am supposed hate these movies. I know I am supposed to decry Episodes I-III as an abomination of all that is Holy. I know that the nerd Gods may strike me down with bolts of lighting, plagues of Zerg, and floods of mountain dew. I know that risk being stripped of my ever so precious nerd card. I know all this and I still really do enjoy these movies. All I can do is throw my hands in the air and shamefacedly mumble "The heart wants what the heart wants." I love the costumes (I am a sucker for great costumes), the pageantry, the back-story, the romance (I had a childhood crush on Darth Vader), and Natalie Portman's role as Padme Amidala. So maybe I have to keep it hidden away, like it was a secret stash of porn, and only watch when I am alone, but I still love it.

This is my top guilty pleasure film for hackers/geeks.

There are just so many fun hacker/geek movies out there. Sneakers, Real Genius, and War Games would have to be on the list for sure. Am I the only person who think that Mitch looks like Sarah Jessica Parker trying to be a boy? Maybe it's just me. I think I would have to put Swordfish on the list because it is just too sexy to be ignored. The Net is just all kinds of 1990's internet paranoia wraaped into a weird little movie, but that makes it kind of cool.
