Most people remember the tale of
Snow White as it was told in Disney's sanitized animated version, but that
isn't how the story really goes. The
true story, based on the Grimm fairytale, is more disturbing than Disney has
led us to believe. The real story is filled with jealousy, murder, complete
stupidity, and possible necrophilia. Here are the major differences from the
original Grimm fairytale:
1) Snow White is actually only seven
years old when she becomes the Queen's beauty rival. That is like Miss America being jealous of a contestant on
Toddlers in Tiarras, kind of crazy.
2) The Queen tricks Snow White
three times. Snow White is possibly
the dumbest kid in the world. Although the dwarves warn her to be careful
she still lets a stranger in three times, even when she knows her life is in
danger. Tools used in the
attempted murder of Snow White are stay laces/corset laces, a poisoned comb,
and a poisoned apple. Possibly the lamest murder weapons in history. Why didn't the
Queen just stab the kid to death or something?
3) Snow White is not awakened by a kiss
and the prince may have been a necrophiliac and/or pedophile. The prince's servants
stumble while carrying Snow White's coffin, which dislodges a piece of the apple.
Snow White awakens, and then agrees
to marry the Prince. So basically the prince falls in love or lust (or whatever)
with the seemingly dead/sleeping Snow White and asks the dwarves if he can have
her lifeless body. I don’t know about you, but that kind of sounds like necrophilia
to me (or at least a guy who is creepishly into chicks who are unconscious). Also keep in mind that the story says
that she is alseep for many years, which could be as little as two years, and
doesn't specify that her body really aged during this time. So A) She didn't
age at all over the years and the prince "falls in love" with a passed
out 7 year old girl, B) only a few years have passed and she is still a young
girl with the mind of a seven year old, or C) several years have passed but
while she may have the body of a woman she still has the mind of a seven year
old girl. All in all, that isn't a great love story.
4) The Queen comes to Snow White's
wedding where she is brutally tortured to death. Upon realizing that the Queen
is at her wedding, Snow White has shoes of iron heated over a fire until they
are red-hot and then placed on the Queen's feet. The Queen is then forced to
dance in the red-hot iron shoes until she dies at Snow White wedding.
And they all lived happily ever
after?
