I love the 80s, and this trailer of the Muppets Most Wanted movie brings me back to those good old days when I used to watch Fraggle Rock and Sesame Street.  For all you lovers of Muppets out there, you might want to check out this adorable little trailer of the next Muppet movie that will arrive at theaters on March 21, 2014.

Ben Affleck as the new Batman?

The new Man of Steel movie will feature none other than Ben Affleck to star as Batman.  Personally, I have mixed feelings about this.  Although I adore Ben Affleck from Kevin Smith movies like Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma, I can't see him play a good Batman.  To me, the actor that plays The Dark Knight needs to be...well, DARK, and Ben Affleck just doesn't have that type of mystique about him.

Although the Cohen brothers are either hit or miss, as far as their movies go, no one can deny that The Big Lebowski is one of their best creations.  Everybody loves the Dude, and this is his story in 60 seconds, brought to you by 1A4Studio. 

Kick Ass 2 featurette - Hit Girl vs. Mother Russia

In honor of Kick Ass 2 which opens in theaters today, check out this featurette of an epic fight scene between Mother Russia and Hit Girl.  As a fan of the Kick Ass comic book series by Mark Millar, I have to say they were spot on choosing bodybuilder Olga Kurkalina to play the ruthless giant known as Mother Russia.  She looks even more scary and intimidating than I had imagined.

Geeks love their T-shirts.  That's a fact!  A lot of this obsession with t-shirts is spawned from our unhealthy obsession with pop culture, especially movies.  Recently, FoundItemClothing had a contest daring geeks to name each movie from this t-shirt video.  I have to admit, I could name most, but not all.  I dare you to try it.  There are 78 movies in all.  If you want to take a peek at the answers I have provided them below.

Thor 2's new poster is looking pretty good, and showcases (it looks like) EVERY actor in the movie.  Seriously, I don't think they could have fit another person in their if they tried.

Ender’s Game boycott ensues over Orson Scott Card’s anti-gay remarks

It’s not exactly news that Orson Scott Card doesn’t like gay people.  The prolific author’s homophobic views have been controversial for decades.  Card is not only on the board of directors for the National Organization for Marriage, but he has had his views published in the Mormon Times.  In this particular article sample Card wrote for the Mormon Times he confronts the controversy over his views:

Oldboy remake set to hit theaters Oct. 25

Jim Carrey withdraws support of his movie Kick Ass 2

The recent violent incidences that have plagued the U.S. recently have had an impact on American actor Jim Carrey.  A week ago, Carrey tweeted:

Pacific Rim hits theaters July 12

"When an alien attack threatens the Earth's existence, giant robots piloted by humans are deployed to fight off the menace." -IMDB

I'm pretty sure they stole the concept of this movie from Evangelion.   Regardless, this movie looks pretty awesome and I'm glad they're finally bringing the kaiju-fighting robots idea to American cinemas.  Pacific Rim was directed by Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy, Blade 2) and will hit theaters July 12, 2013.

Kick Ass 2 trailer based off of the Mark Millar graphic novel

I'm very excited about this new Kick Ass movie.  As a fan of the comic I am happy that the powers-that-be decided to produce the sequel to Mark Millar's famous graphic novel.  Also, personally I think Hit Girl is one of the most enjoyable and positive female role models to see on screen.  I love the fact that she's 'tougher' than all the boys and can hold her own in a fist fight even though she's about half their age and size.  The movie is set to hit theaters Aug. 13, 2013.

A critical view of 300: A Film Analysis

With 300: Rise of an Empire expected to hit theaters in 2014, a curiosity has been building over the first 300 movie.  The first 300 film was released in 2006 and was adapted to the screen by Zack Snyder from Frank Miller's graphic novel. The story depicts the fight of 300 Spartans to repel a much larger Persian invading army from Greece. While the film is appealing to me on a superficial aesthetic level I find the story and how it is represented to be extremely problematic. 

SciFi Movie Alert: Ender's Game trailer

Here is the long awaited Ender's Game trailer starring Harrison Ford.  This movie shows potential for greatness.  However, the trailer makes me wonder if the movie will be true to the original Orson Scott Card novel.  Only time will tell.  You be the judge.

SciFi Movie Alert: The Purge trailer

This summer shows great promise for movies.  The next movie on my list to see is The Purge starring Ethan Hawke and Lena Headey (i.e. Cersei from Game of Thrones).  Like Looper, this movie focuses on a new world dystopia with a twist.  Expect The Purge to hit theaters June 7.

The Geek Magnet's Top 5 Easter Holiday Movie List

Holidays at my home are never what people call "normal" and my family's holiday movie choices reflect that. Christmas means watching Bram Stoker's Dracula (all that red blood on white snow feels like Christmas) and Thanksgiving is all about watching The Godfather (the movie is all about family). Croods (March 22)

This movie looks like it’s another version of Ice Age but with a human cast. It seems to have potential but it also doesn't seem fresh. It has a 50/50 of being good chance in my book.

Iron Man 3 (May 3)

Super Hero movies tend to suck but Iron Man is one of my go-to examples of how it can be done right. So far I have really enjoyed the Iron Man movies.  Tony Stark is just such a refreshing character to watch. This movie looks to be a lot darker than the rest but it also seems like a natural evolution for the franchise. I'll definitely be seeing it opening night.
